Located just south of Barry Road, the parcel of land that eventually became the City of Platte Woods was developed by Ernest “Ernie” C. Thompson as the “Garden Spot of Platte County” in the 1930’s. It was conceived as an exclusive residential community offering full acre or larger lots.
The City of Platte Woods has zones for residential and business. Currently there are 175 residences and a population of 474. The forty businesses within the City include gasoline stations, banking, restaurants, medical services and legal services. Two well-established churches are also located within the city limits.
It is located in the Park Hill School District.
